When I first started out in this journey, I had a simple goal. Share whatever knowledge I had, and if it helped but ONE individual some day, I considered myself successful. Well, time passes, skills get acquired and refined, and things just happen, for lack of better words.
I have always had a passion for teaching, well at least since my military career started some 19/20 years ago. I was a shy type in the beginning, but having been forced to get up in front of crowds (Brigades and lower) and teach, it became easier as time went on. The more this happened, the more my passion for teaching grew.
I don’t profess to know it all, never have. I know I’m not the best out there, though I try to be the best I can at what I do. For those that know me well, I don’t sugar coat anything or conform to popular belief. I call em like I see em, and speak on common sense levels as much as possible. I never found a need to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes or make stuff up. That benefits nobody. You can tell on videos with the things that some folks do, who actually gets out there and does it, and who is comfortable in their backyard doing things that don’t quite work in the wilderness. I try and keep things real and relevant to what I speak to or show on videos.
I don’t care to be the youtube guru with the biggest following, have the best school, make the most money or anything like that. I love to teach, and I love spending time outdoors, no matter the application. Side Note: Having 40k+ subs on youtube is a blessing, and I thank you all for that. I want to simply share what I know and have learned with anyone willing to learn it. I want to spend as much time outdoors as possible, even with my situation, (wife and kids, animals, full-time Army career etc etc). If I can keep active outdoors teaching, or just enjoying myself out there, I consider myself blessed.
Lately I have been posting some blogs and such that may contain a little sarcasm, satire, or whatever. I have done this because I think there is a need for it to some degree. I don’t like to start crap on the internet, or cause problems…..but I can’t stand when others do, and that’s what drives me to post these things. Take them for what they are. Know that I would never try and steer you wrong, try and pull the wool over on ya, or post something just to try and sell you something, be it a line of BS or latest bit of must have gear.
I have had many “friends” in the past 10 years or so doing this. Some have moved on, some disowned me, some just disconnected because they are “better than me” an so on. Honestly, I don’t care. I sleep the same at night. I can probably count on one hand how many real friends I have, and even less for the people that deserve my time and efforts, but I continue to do this because I enjoy it. When I don’t enjoy it anymore, I will stop doing it, at least the videos and teaching, the woods life will always be there.
I wish you all the best in your endeavors, and hopefully we can help in some small way. See ya in the woods.
